Report: Buccaneers QB Josh McCown Has Torn Ligament In Thumb

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Buccaneers QB Josh McCown has a torn ligament in his thumb that could require surgery in the end.

Schefter adds that McCown will try to throw the ball on Monday to see if he can play through the pain. However, if he’s unable to throw the ball, he could undergo surgery that would likely sideline him for “at least six weeks.”

Mike Glennon took over McCown Thursday night and completed 17-of-24 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown during their blowout loss to the Falcons.

There has been some talk throughout the week that Glennon could remain the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, but we’ll have to see how McCown’s thumb looks next week before penciling the second-year quarterback in as the start for the foreseeable future.

McCown, 35, signed a two-year, $10 million contract that includes another $5 million is incentives. He has a base salary of $4.75 million for the 2014 season and another $5.25 million coming his way next year.
