Early Monday morning, the Detroit New’ Chris McCosky wrote an article with quotes from Lions WR Calvin Johnson, who mentioned to McCosky he played in last year’s record-setting season with as many as three broken fingers.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has since published an article disputing that Johnson did not break any fingers last year, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Florio cites specific examples last season where Johnson was listed with thumb injuries. And while he did indeed have injuries to his left hand during the campaign, none of his fingers were actually broken.
McCosky’s piece did not mention a specific quote from Johnson stating he broke fingers. Instead, Johnson was quoted as saying the following:
“I had a couple of injuries but nothing that prohibited me from doing what I needed to do… The thing with a lot of football players, you have injuries, but unless you know about it you just think it’s something that hurts and you keep on playing.”
