Report: Cardinals Are Not Hiring Dick LeBeau

Kent Somers reports that the Cardinals will not be adding former Steelers DC Dick LeBeau to their coaching staff, despite previous reports that had said Arizona was a potential landing spot.

  • Somers concedes that he doesn’t know LeBeau’s plans at this point in time.

According to Somers, Cardinals HC Bruce Arians is expected to promote a position coach to defensive coordinator in the coming weeks.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently mentioned that didn’t see LeBeau ending up with the Cardinals.

Knowing what I know about Dick LeBeau, and as I said in the tweet, unless he has changed his mind he has no interest in being a position coach,” Dulac told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Wednesday. “And I don’t think he will be a linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals. I’m not even sure he’ll end up there.

According to Dulac, there is a better chance of LeBeau taking a job with the Titans than him relocating to Arizona.

“I’m not so sure he is going to go to the desert,” Dulac said. “I believe there’s a chance he could end up in Tennessee, which is three hours from Cincinnati, but I don’t believe he will go to Arizona. But if he does, trust me, it won’t be as a linebackers coach.

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean has maintained that he believes the Titans are still “in play” for LeBeau’s services, so there could be something to this idea.

The Titans make sense for LeBeau based on the fact that he also has ties to their coaching staff. On top of that, Tennessee employs a 3-4 defense, so the transition for him would be as easy as any.

We’ll have more updates regarding LeBeau and where he could end up as the news is available.
