Report: Browns Also Have Interest In Trading For QB Alex Smith

Update:

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Browns are believed to have “some” interest in trading for QB Alex Smith.

Rapoport adds that the Cardinals seem to think the Chiefs are close to reaching an agreement with him and are “very pessimistic” that San Francisco would trade him within their division.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that a NFL source has informed him that the Cardinals “exploring the possibility” of trading for 49ers QB Alex Smith.

Somers adds that it’s unknown how serious the Cardinals are about trading for another quarterback after what transpired with Kevin Kolb, but his source mentions that they’re “intrigued” by Smith’s “experience, intelligence and talents.”

Arizona reportedly believes Smith’s struggles early in his career can be attributed to the number of coaching changes and offensive systems he was asked to learn. Kevin Kolb reportedly remains an option for them, but most likely following a pay cut.

Somers mentions that the Cardinals are “likely” to draft a quarterback in the first three rounds.

It was reported a few days ago that the 49ers had a deal in place for Smith and most of the speculation suggested that the Chiefs were the most likely suitor. The Cardinals have been linked to Smith for months now, so it’s really not surprising to hear that they could be an option. We should know more in the coming days.
