Report: Cardinals To Interview Bengals OC Jay Gruden For Head Coaching Spot

NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports that the Cardinals are set to interview current Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden for their vacant head coaching position.

The Cardinals had been favorites to land Andy Reid as their next head coach, but since then they have remained quiet. The team will interview Gruden this week after the Bengals were eliminated from the playoffs for the second year in a row by the Houston Texans.

Gruden had declined to take head coaching interviews last year, but will be doing so this season after having emerged as a candidate for several teams. Gruden had previously worked with his brother, Jon, in Tampa and has had head coaching experience as a successful coach in the Arena Football League.

One of Gruden’s biggest assets is his work with young QB Andy Dalton. Gruden has gotten results from Dalton who has twice reached the playoffs in his two years in the league which included a Pro Bowl invite during his rookie season. Saturday’s loss to the Texans didn’t help Gruden’s overall impression on the national stage, but teams still appear to be interested as the Eagles are also expected to interview him at some point.
