Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that Chargers RB Danny Woodhead has suffered severe high ankle sprain along with fractured fibula during Week 3’s game.

  • According to Marvez’s sources, the injury will likely require season-ending surgery.

After the game, HC Mike McCoy said Woodhead was expected to undergo further testing tonight, but it appeared all along that the injury was serious.

Woodhead, 29, signed a two-year contract extension with the Chargers back in July worth a total value of $7.25 million and included a $3 million signing bonus. He’ll make $750,000 for the 2014 season and base salaries of $1.5 million (2015) and $2 million (2016).

If this ends up being it for Woodhead this season, he’ll finish the year with 15 carries for 38 yards and five receptions for 34 yards receiving.
