Report: Chargers Tried To Lure LaDainian Tomlinson Out Of Retirement

Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports! reports that the Chargers recently tried to convince retired RB LaDainian Tomlinson to return to his former for the upcoming season.

Tomlinson explained that the Chargers were actually serious about the idea and were even willing to offer him a limited number of carries per game.

“I met [new general manager] Tom Telesco and [rookie head coach] Mike McCoy at the [NFL scouting] combine, and they asked me to come back and play,”, Tomlinson told Silver over the weekend. “At first I thought they weren’t really serious, but they kept talking about it, and I realized it was real. They said, ‘You can come back and carry it 10 or 12 times a game. We’d like to have you here.

While flattered, the San Diego great rejected the offer, admitting that it would take a lot mentally to return. It certainly would have been great to see Tomlinson suit up for the Chargers again, but it at least makes you wonder whether or not the regime has any faith in Ryan Mathews.
