Report: Chiefs Contact OL Ryan Lilja About Returning For Another Season

Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs have reached out to retired OL Ryan Lilja about possibly returning for another season.

Teicher’s source added that Lilja is “receptive to the idea.”

Lilja, 31, was set to become an unrestricted free agent, but his decision to retire had a lot to do with the toll that football was taking on his body.

Physically, you hit a wall and your body kind of tells you to start thinking about it,” said Lilja following the 2012 season. “I wanted to be in a place where I was at peace with my decision and could move forward and never regret it. I’m there.

If he’s willing to come out of retirement and re-sign with the Chiefs, this could be a solid move for them as he was rated as the No. 14 center in the league last season by Pro Football Focus.
