Report: Chiefs Could Draft A QB As High As Round One

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Chiefs will consider drafting a quarterback in the first-round as contract talks with QB Alex Smitharen’t progressing well.”

This coincides with a report fromĀ ESPN’s Chris MortensenĀ who mentioned Ā a few days ago that the Chiefs could be a team to keep an eye on in this year’s draft regarding quarterback prospects.

Interestingly enough, Mortensen suggests that Fresno State QBĀ Derek CarrĀ has been among the quarterbacks linked to the Chiefs.

Kansas City has been in talks with Smith for awhile and even though there hasn’t been a lot of progress made in recent weeks, it seems unlikely that they would take a quarterback in round one.

As things stand right now, the Chiefs are currently without a second-round pick and have major holes to fill on offensive line. Beat reporters have been saying for some time now that they are a perfect candidate to trade back and acquire some additional picks to work with.

For what it’s worth,Ā we have the Chiefs taking Oregon State WRĀ Brandin CooksĀ inĀ the first round of our recently updatedĀ 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
