ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Chiefs have officially reached an agreement with Andy Reid to be their next head coach.

The two sides still need to have their lawyers review the agreement, but it’s safe to say that Reid will be Chiefs head coach next season.

This is hardly shocking after all of the ink that’s been spilled on the topic and the fact that GM Scott Pioli was fired earlier this morning.

Reid did a great job of building leverage to secure another head coaching position in the NFL. It appeared as though Arizona was going to be his next team, but that quickly changed when Reid chose to meet with the Chiefs before them. Before any of this got started, it seemed as though Reid would end up coaching the Chargers, but never even spoke to them about the job.

Reid is very respected around the league, but he’ll have to produce some results fairly quickly before the heat is once again turned up on him. Kansas City has a pretty decent roster, but it will all come down to the quarterback position. Dwayne Bowe and Brandon Albert are two key free agents that will need to be addressed during the offseason, but Reid’s presence could help them in negotiations, at least to some degree.
