Police have confirmed LB Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend, with their 3 month old daughter and girlfriend’s mother present, after an argument in a residence 5 miles near Arrowhead Stadium before committing suicide in the team’s parking lot.
As Belcher arrived to Arrowhead, teammates informed GM Scott Pioli and HC Romeo Crennel that Belcher was distraught in his car. After having called the police, both Pioli and Crennel proceeded to talk to Belcher where he thanked them for “all they had done for him” before pulling the gun on himself. He was 25 years old.
As of now, Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET game between the Chiefs and Panthers at Arrowhead is scheduled to go on as planned.
According to an officer who was near the scene, LB Jovan Belcher thanked both GM Scott Pioli, and HC Romeo Crennel “for all they had done for him,” before he committed suicide in front of them.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that a Chiefs player, and another unknown person have been found shot in the team’s facility.
