Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Chiefs have reached an agreement with RBÂ Jamaal Charles, who was reportedly willing to hold out for a new contract.
- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Charles will receive a two-year extension that will pay him as the second-highest paid running back in the NFL.
- According to Schefter, the new agreement will keep him under team control for the next four years.
- Mike Garafolo reports that Charles’ two-year contract includes $18 million in “new money” and $28 million over the next four years.
- Rapoport mentions that the deal will include an additional $5 million over the next two years.
Charles will now make $8.3 million for the 2014 season, instead of the $3.9 million included in his previous contract.
There is no question that Charles had out played his current contract after he played a staggering 87.4 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. He would have made less money than Ray Rice, Reggie Bush, Jonathan Stewart and Steven Jackson this season.
Charles, 27, ran for 1,287 yards on 259 carries (5 YPC) while contributing another 693 yards receiving on 70 receptions and scoring 19 touchdowns for Kansas City last season.
Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 running back in the league last year.
