Report: Chip Kelly Meeting With Bills Friday Night & Eagles Saturday

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Chip Kelly met with the Browns for 7 hours on Friday and is currently now meeting with the Buffalo Bills.

Kelly still has an interview setup with the Eagles for tomorrow, but Mortensen adds that the Browns are still “favored.”

This situations are almost always fluid, so it’s not surprising that Kelly would at least meet with the other interested teams before making a final decision. Hopefully we’ll have some more definitive news tomorrow.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Cleveland Browns are close to reaching an agreement with Oregon HC Chip Kelly.

Rapoport adds that the Eagles “weren’t as high on Chip Kelly as many thought.”

Both the Eagles and the Bills were also mentioned as possible landing spots for Kelly, but the Browns made it pretty clear that Kelly was their main objective and it appears as though they were quite convincing during their meeting with Kelly today.

The Browns decided to focus on finding their next head before turning their attention towards a new GM. It would make sense for them to offer Kelly some amount of personnel control, considering how fast this deal has come together and the fact that Kelly had plenty of leverage in any negotiation.

Cleveland already met with Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton so they are in compliance with the Rooney Rule.
