Mike Freeman of B/R reports that free agent QB Colin Kaepernick has filed a grievance under the CBA for collusion against NFL owners.

  • According to Freeman, Kaepernick is preparing a statement about his filing of a grievance against owners and it should be released soon.
  • Kaepernick has hired attorney Mark Geragos, who has represented numerous high profile clients in the past, per Freeman.

Last we heard regarding Kaepernick, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that the Titans were contacted by the representatives for Kaepernick a few weeks ago after Marcus Mariota suffered a hamstring injury.

Kaepernick’s reps explained that he’s working out daily and he was interested in working out for them. However, the Titans weren’t interested in bringing him in.

La Canfora says that the Kaepernick’s agents have been diligent about contacting teams whenever a quarterback injury occurs, but no one has been willing to give him an opportunity. In fact, sources tell La Canfora that Kaepernick has never entered into contract talks with any team.

The Titans elected to sign Brandon Weeden to a contract to serve as Matt Cassel‘s backup.

Kaepernick, 29, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed when reached an agreement with the 49ers on a restructured deal.

Kaepernick visited with the Seahawks a few months ago but left Seattle without an agreement.

In 2016, Kaepernick has completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 468 yards rushing. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.
