Report: Colts Lose WR Reggie Wayne For The Season

Update:

  • Ian Rapoport reports that a source has informed him that Wayne also torn his meniscus.

We’ll have to see if the Colts look to the trade market for a solution at wide receiver.

T.Y. Hilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey will be the team’s top-two receivers for the foreseeable future. There are options available in the trade market such Hakeem NicksKenny Britt and Josh Gordon, but Indy has already parted with a first-round pick for Trent Richardson, so they may not want to what draft picks they have left for a receiver.

Wayne, 34, has one year remaining on his three-year contract worth $17.5 million. His base salary in 2014 is $4 million.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Colts doctors initially diagnosed Reggie Wayne‘s knee injury as a torn ACL.

  • Mortensen adds that the team is “hoping for a miracle” from Wayne’s MRI today.

Wayne planted his leg while trying to catch a pass from Andrew Luck that was off target and his knee flexed rather awkwardly. It’s never a good sign to see someone go down without contract, especially if it’s related to their knee.

Following the game, reports indicated that Wayne teared up after he spoke to team doctors, which further suggests that the team believes his injury could be of the season-ending variety

  1. I know that remaining free agents aren’t on rosters for a reason, but how about taling a look at Steve Breaston or Laurent Robinson?

    • Both are realistic options for the Colts. It’s hard to say if they would be capable of taking over Wayne’s specific role in the team’s offense, but these are certainly two players worth considering.
