Report: Colts GM Ryan Grigson Could Also Be Out In IND Along With Chuck Pagano

Jason Cole of B/R reports that Colts owner Jim Irsay is not only considering the idea of parting ways with HC Chuck Pagano, there’s also a chance GM Ryan Grigson could be on the hot seat as well.

According to Cole, even if the Colts were to retain Grigson for another year, there’s a chance he could be asked to accept a reduced role in the team’s front office, depending on what Irsay wants to do after the season.

Grigson has come under criticism for his decision in regards to player acquisition including the decision to trade RB Trent Richardson and use a first-round pick on DE Bjoern Werner. Another issues, according to Cole, is that Grigson has meddled with the day-to-day workings of the coaching staff.

In the event Irsay targets a high-profile coach like Nick Saban or Sean Payton, there’s at least some question as to whether Grigson could be pushed out of his current position.

Previous reports had said that there was tension between the coaching staff and Grigson, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

On top of that, if the reports of the Colts looking to hire a big-name head coach next year are true, it would make sense that they would be willing to offer a candidate at least some control over the 53-man roster, which would directly impact Grigson.

There’s still time for the Colts to get things turned around, despite their poor start to the season. In the end, both Pagano and Grigson will ultimately be evaluated on how the team performs in the playoffs.

We’ll have more regarding the Colts and potential changes to their coaching staff and front office as the news is available.
