Report: Colts OLB Robert Mathis Tore His Achilles, Done For The Season

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has confirmed with multiple sources that Colts OLB Robert Mathis tore his Achilles’ tendon last week while working out in Atlanta.

  • Florio adds that Mathis’ season is now over.

The Colts were already without Mathis, who is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substance. This is a really tough loss for Indianapolis’ defense as they could really use Mathis back on the field.

Mathis, 33, is coming off of his best season of his 11-year NFL career and 59 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and eight forced fumbles. He ultimately finished second to Panthers ILB Luke Kuechly in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

He still has two years remaining on his four-year, $36 million contract that included $17 million guaranteed.

Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 2 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense last year.
