Jets Sign WR Eric Decker

The New York Jets announced that they have agreed to terms with former Broncos WR Eric Decker.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Decker receives a five-year contract worth $36.25 million and includes $15 million guaranteed.
  • This brings Decker’s annual salary to $7.25 million.

The Jets had an obvious need at the wide receiver position heading into the offseason, so walking away with arguable the top receiver in this year’s free agent class should help their offense moving forward.

Recent reports have mentioned that they could still target Packers free agent James Jones in the coming days as well.

Decker, 26, is coming off of another solid season while catching from Peyton Manning. He has put together back-to-back solid seasons since Manning arrived in Denver. Last year, he totaled 87 receptions for 1,288 yard receiving and 11 touchdowns.

We had him listed as the No. 16 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

  1. No playoff hopes, no Ware, Ward, Peyton, no chance at the Hall of Fame despite remote chance prior to signing…. Geno Smith is going to give this guy terror nightmares before all is said and done. I think holding ground until 6M/season came around made sense, but to sacrifice everything for an extra few million? Easy for me to say, but also a little easier to say when you got 30M in your pocket. I, in no way think Holmes is a horrible wideout but the plummet of his career will certainly spell out Decker’s, sadly.
