Report: Concerns That Buccaneers G Carl Nick’s Career Could Be Over

Jason Cole of National Football Post reports that two sources have informed him that Buccaneers G Carl Nicks continues to deal with pain in his surgically repaired foot and there is “some doubt” regarding his future in the NFL.

Carl is trying to deal with the pain and play again, but we’ll see if he can get through it,” one of Cole’s sources said.

Nick, 28, was one of a few Buccaneers players to contract MRSA earlier this season. Unfortunately for Nicks, his MRSA infection would later return, which resulted in the team placing him on season-ending injured reserve.

Cole adds that there is a chance that Nicks could be released this offseason, despite the fact that he signed a five-year contract worth $47.5 million that included $31 million guaranteed back in 2012.

Releasing Nicks would free up close to $2.28 million in cap space while creating over $7 million in dead money, according to Overthecap.com.
