Report: Contract Situation Has Led To “Irreparable” Harm To Relationship Between Chargers & Joey Bosa

Jason Cole of B/R reports that the situation between Chargers and first-round DE Joey Bosa appears to have turned ugly, as the two parties haven’t had any discussions over the past few weeks.

In fact, a source tells Cole that there has been “irreparable” harm done to the relationship between the team and Bosa. As of now, the Chargers still haven’t returned a phone call after the recent offer made by Bosa’s agent, which has left Bosa reportedly feeling “disrespected” by the team.

The other issue, according to Cole, is that Bosaa feels like the recent public comments made by players such as TE Antonio Gates are a calculated effort by the team to try to get him to report to training camp.

Last night, Pro Football Talk mentioned that the ball has really been in the Chargers’ court since July 28, when the representatives for Bosa made their latest proposal. However, the team appears to be comfortable waiting things out, despite the negative flack they’ve received for the situation.

The deadline for the Chargers to trade Bosa came and went on Tuesday without San Diego even considering the idea.

Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, mentioned that she wishes they “pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.

“It bums me out for him so much,” she wrote on Facebook, via SDBoltReport.com. “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.

Bosa, 20, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Chargers. It was a bit of a surprise to see them grab Bosa, considering the amount of buzz that they were going to take either take Ronnie Stanley or DeForest Buckner.

According to OverTheCap.com, Bosa will sign a four-year contract worth $25,873,672 to go along with a signing bonus of $17,017,216 once they’ve reached an agreement on the contract specifics. The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his three-year career at Ohio State, Bosa recorded 148 tackles, 51 tackles for a loss, 26 sacks, five forced fumbles, an interception, two fumble recoveries, and six pass defenses.

We’ll have more regarding the situation between the Chargers and Bosa as the news is available.
