Report: Cowboys First-Round Pick Morris Claiborne Replaced As Starting CB

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reports that the Dallas Cowboys have replaced former first-round pick Morris Claiborne as their starting cornerback.

Orlando Scandrick will take over in his place. Claiborne is reportedly dealing with a lack of confidence, which has resulted in some poor play over the first four games of the 2013 season.

HC Jason Garrett mentioned that the team is still counting on Claiborne get better over the course of the season.

We feel like the combination we had out there is the best combination, and if we thought otherwise we would make that change. But what he needs to do is just play better,” Garrett said. “He needs to play with the right technique and do it consistently over and over and over again.

Rookie B.W. Webb will be the team’s slot corner moving forward.

It’s still too early to give up on the No 6 overall pick of the 2012 draft. Claiborne has ability, but until he gets his confidence back, it’s unlikely that he’ll regain his starting job opposite of Brandon Carr.
