Report: Cowboys Have Had A Four-Year, $16M Deal On Table For DeMarco Murray

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Dallas Cowboys have had a four-year contract worth more than $16 million on the table for RB DeMarco Murray.

Murray is in prime position to be the best available running back on the open market, so it’s almost certainly going to take much more than that to get him under contract before the start of free agency.

Of course, the Cowboys have their franchise tag at their disposal, which would run them close to $9.54 million next year.

Dallas will still need to decide what to do with WR Dez Bryant, who is also set to be an unrestricted free agent and should command a massive contract.

Earlier in the day, Matt Williamson of ESPN offered his take on the teams that make the most sense for Murray if he were able to test the free agent market.

According to Williamson, Murray’s best option would be to return to the Cowboys next year.

However, if Murray were to test the open market, Williamson believes the Titans, Raiders, Colts, Falcons, Chargers and Patriots could be teams to keep an eye on for his services.

Murray, 26, was extremely impressive this season. He ran for 1,845 yards on 393 carries (4.7 YPC) and scored 13 touchdowns, over the course of 16 games and added another 57 receptions for 416 yards receiving.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.

We have Murray listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
