Cowboys May “Shut Down” WR Miles Austin To Allow His Hamstring To Heal

According to Cowboys HC Jason Garrett, there is a chance that WR Miles Austin could be “shut down” to allow him to recover from lingering hamstring issues, per Clarence Hill.

“I thought Miles looked OK,” Garrett said last week, via ESPN Dallas. “He’s clearly working his way back into it. I don’t think he looked as explosive as he did early on in the year. He’s clearly trying to get his hamstring healthy. He came through the game, looked like he was able to function, everything we asked him to do. But he’s a work in progress coming back.”

After being held without a catch for the second straight week, it appears as though the Dallas offense is more productive with rookie Terrance Williams as the No. 2 receiver and Cole Beasley working in the slot. Add in Dez Bryant and Jason Witten and the Cowboys could get by without Austin in the lineup.

Until he’s capable of making plays, there is really no reason to force him to play at less than 100 percent.

Austin, 29, signed a huge seven-year, $57.168 million contract with the Cowboys back in 2010. He’s under contract through the 2017 season with rather sizable base salaries. Dallas has some cap issues to address in the coming weeks, so there’s a chance that he could be on the chopping block next June.
