Cowboys Release C Phil Costa

Rowan Kavner of DallasCowboys.com reports that the team has released C Phil Costa

  • Kavner adds that the Cowboys also reworked the contract of G Mackenzy Bernadeau contract, which should get them under the cap.
  • Aaron Wilson reported a few weeks ago that the Cowboys were making this move, but it took a few days to confirm the release of Costa.
  • Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys asked Costa to take a pacy cut, but he declined because he thinks can play elsewhere and possibly start.

Costa, 26, signed a two-year, $2.7 million contract with the Cowboys that also included a $450,000 guaranteed last year. Costa had a base salary of $1.5 million to go along with a  cap figure of $1.725 million, according to OverTheCap.com.

  • Dallas should save $1.5 million in cap space with this roster move.

Pro Football Focus has Costa down for playing just one snap last season, so this doesn’t come as a huge surprise.
