Report: Cowboys Sign QB Brandon Weeden

 

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas first reported that the Cowboys have signed former Browns QB Brandon Weeden to a two-year contract.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Weeden spoke with Ravens and Bengals as well before signing with the Cowboys.
  • Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reported Sunday that Weeden had a visit scheduled with the Cowboys on Monday.

Weeden, 30, was taken with the No. 22 overall pick during the 2012 NFL Draft, but last just two years with the Browns before they cut him loose earlier in the week.

The Cowboys still aren’t sure about the status of backup Kyle Orton, but according to Todd Archer, they believe he’s leaning towards playing next season rather than retire from the NFL.

Either way, this could some insurance in the event that Orton decides to call it a career.

In 2013, Weeden appeared in eight games for the Browns and completed 52.8 percent of his passes for 1,731 yards, nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.
