Report: Cowboys RT Doug Free Agrees To A Pay Cut

Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys RT Doug Free has agreed to a pay cut.

  • Ed Werder reports that Free has agreed to reduce his salary by 50 percent.

Free, 29, was set to make $7 million for the upcoming season and given his recent struggles, it’s hard to justify that kind of money. Free will now make $3.5 million in 2013. Dallas showed some interest in free agent right tackles such as Eric Winston and Tyson Clabo, but it appears as though they used this as leverage to get Free to reduce his salary.

Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Cowboys are trying to get RT Doug Free to agree to a “substantial” pay cut. Rapoport adds that the Cowboys are trying to draw the situation out as they believe “time (is) on their side.

Dallas reportedly had interest in Tyson Clabo before he signed with Miami and, as of now, Eric Winston is really the only serviceable option still available on the open market.
