Report: Cowboys Want To Keep DE DeMarcus Ware, But Not At His Current Price

Ian Rapoport reports that the Cowboys have reached out to DE DeMarcus Ware to let him know that they would like to keep him on their roster moving forward.

However, Dallas is not interest in retaining him at his current salary of $13 million per year, according to Rapoport.

Dallas is reportedly less than $1 million over the cap following the recent restructures to the contracts of Tony Romo, Sean Lee and Orlando Scandrick.

Ware, 31, has been rumored to be on the chopping block for a few months now. He has a cap figure close to $16 million for the 2014 season and a base salary of $12.75 million. Should the Cowboys elect to release Ware outright, they would gain $7.432 million in cap space, which would go a long way towards giving them some flexibility in free agency.

Last year, Ware totaled 40 tackles, six sacks, one interception and a fumble recovery over the course of 13 games.
