Report: Cowboys Won’t Tender RFA RB Phillip Tanner

Tom Pelissero reports that due to the Cowboys awful cap situation, they will not be tendering restricted free agent RB Phillip Tanner.

The Cowboys are still expected to be about $20 million over the cap, despite recent reports that the 2014 salary cap could be has high as $132 million next season.

Dallas will be forced to make a number of roster moves in the coming weeks just to get under the cap limit, and there has been speculation for months now that DE DeMarcus Ware and WR Miles Austin could end up being cap casualties.

As for Tanner, he finished the 2013 season as the team’s No. 4 running back. Tanner appeared in just nine games, totaling 12 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Cowboys while also contributing on special teams last season.

It appears as though he’ll have an opportunity to test the open market this March.
