Report: DeSean Jackson Staying In Washington Tuesday Night

Update:

Chris Russell of ESPN 980 is “hearing” that free agent WR DeSean Jackson will remain in Washington through Tuesday evening.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that there is a “very real opportunity” for the Redskins close the deal with WR DeSean Jackson.
Rapoport adds that there is mutual interest between the two parties in an agreement.

Jackson, 27, totaled 82 receptions for 1,332 yards receiving and nine touchdowns for the Eagles last season. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 7 receiver in the league last year.

Albert Breer reports that the 49ers reached out to free agent WR DeSean Jackson after he was released by the Eagles.

However, Breer adds that “nothing has been set up since.”
A potential visit with the 49ers remains on hold while his agent continues to speak with the Redskins about a possible agreement.

The Bills are reportedly out of the running for Jackson, but the Browns and Raiders figure to still be in the mix.

Dianna Marie Russini reports that if DeSean Jackson doesn’t sign with the Redskins, he is expected to meet with the 49ers on Wednesday.

Les Bowan of the Philly.com, citing a source close to Jackson, reported earlier in the day that Jackson was expected to meet with the Raiders if didn’t sign with the Redskins, so it appears as though things have changed in regards to his market.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers have “real, but guarded” interest in Jackson.
Albert Breer mentions that the Jackson’s asking price would likely have to come down for the 49ers to get involved.

James Walker of ESPN.com is “hearing” that the Buffalo Bills have taken themselves out of the running for free agent WR DeSean Jackson.

According to Walker, other teams have “taken the forefront.“

Jackson is still in Washington and is agent is reportedly sitting down with the Redskins to discuss a potential agreement.

Previous reports mentioned that the Bills were “lurking” in regards to Jackson, so it’s not all that surprising to hear that they may no longer be in the mix for him.

Ian Rapoport reports that DeSean Jackson‘s agent, Joel Segal, and members of the Redskins brass are “sitting down now to begin negotiations.”

Rapoport reports that the plan is for Jackson to stay in town with hope of working out an agreement.

Tarik El-Bashir, citing a league source, reported that Jackson had left Redskins Park after spending three hours in meetings.

Russini adds that the Browns have are “going hard” with their offer for Jackson.

A Redskins source tells Russini: “If DeSean Jackson gets on the plane…its going to be hard to sign him. He’s at the Park now. They can’t let him leave.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie is “leery” about signing free agent WR DeSean Jackson.

Florio mentions that McKenzie’s concerns do not stem from the NJ.com article that outlined his supposed gang ties. Instead, McKenzie is reportedly concerned about Jackson’s “reputation as a me-first player who can’t be controlled.”

Jackson is still meeting with the Redskins, so there is no guarantee that the Raiders will even get an opportunity to meet with him in the coming days.

According to the Washington Post, the Redskins have made progress towards an agreement with WR DeSean Jackson, but they haven’t finalized anything as of now.

A source tells the Post that the two sides are believed to be “getting close” to an agreement.

Les Bowan of the Philly.com, citing a source close to Jackson, reports that he is expected to either sign with the Redskins, or move on to meet with the Raiders.

The Bills are reportedly interested in Jackson as well, but it appears as though Oakland could get the next visit if he ends up leaving Washington today without a contract.

Dianna Marie Russini reports sources have informed her that free agent WR DeSean Jackson and the Redskins “want this to work.”

According to Russini, it’s “not a done deal” as of now and the two sides are expected to meet again tomorrow.
Russini adds that Jackson’s agent was expected to leave tomorrow, but is now planning to stay until Wednesday.

Mike Garafolo confirms that Jackson’s visit with Washington has gone well so far, but mentions that the Raiders and some other teams are still in play.

ESPN’s Ed Werder confirms that Jackson will continue talks with “multiple teams.”

The Raiders and Bills are reportedly “lurking” in the shadows for Jackson right now, according to Rapoport.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Washington Redskins will have an opportunity to “seal the deal” with free agent WR DeSean Jackson during his visit tonight and tomorrow.

Rapoport mentions that Jackson will have dinner with the Redskins Monday and likely take a physical on Tuesday.
If Washington signs Jackson, it could come Tuesday afternoon, according to Rapoport.
Rapoport adds that the market for Jackson is strong enough that he is “beyond the one-year, ‘prove-it’ type of deal.“

Interestingly enough, Rapoport mentions that Jackson is in position to best the five-year, $36.25 million contract that Jets signed Eric Decker to a few weeks ago.

“If you want to talk about what kind of contract he would generate, Eric Decker was the top receiver on the market during free agency,” Rapoport said, via NFL.com. “Don’t be surprised if DeSean Jackson commands more than that. He is coming off possibly the best year of his career, and was set to make $10.5 million with the Eagles.”

ESPNs’ Ed Werder reports that the Panthers, Raiders and Jets are expected to be involved in the bidding for free agent WR DeSean Jackson.

“There have been negotiations in the past 24 hours,” a source tells Werder. “Two teams nobody has mentioned as being interested are deep in negotiations. They are engaged with multiple clubs.”

Werder adds that the Saints, Packers and Patriots are out on Jackson.
Werder reported Monday morning that two teams that have yet to be identified are “in deep negotiations” with Jackson.

Jackson is visiting the Redskins on Monday and could have other visits scheduled at some point next week.

According to the Washington Post, it remains “unclear” whether or not the Redskins are willing to meet free agent WR DeSean Jackson‘s asking price.

Washington is reportedly in “full agreement” in their decision to pursue Jackson and others have characterized their them as being “all in” on Jackson, so their interest is real.

A separate source tells the Post that the Redskins will only sign Jackson “if he’ll come on the cheap.”

As of now, the Redskins have $6.895 million in available cap space, which isn’t enough to really get into a bidding ware with cap-rich teams like the Raiders, who are believed to have interest in Jackson as well.

Ian Rapoport first reported that the Buffalo Bills are a “serious suitor” for free agent WR DeSean Jackson and can’t be ruled out that this point in time.

Rapoport added that the Bills are working quietly to recruit Jackson while doing research on him in the process.
Tim Graham confirms that the Bills are, in fact, doing their “doing their due diligence” on Jackson.
- Graham mentions that the Bills signing Jackson “could happen” and believes he would be a better option than any of their current receivers.

The Bills top three receivers are Stevie Johnson, Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin as of now, but Jackson would give them a more dynamic offensive weapon.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, the Jets “won’t be a factor” in the bidding for free agent WR DeSean Jackson.

Cimini reports that the Jets held “internal discussions” regarding the possibility of adding Jackson and his former OC Marty Mornhinweg even supported the idea of signing him.
Mornhinweg reportedly told people within in the organization that Jackson wouldn’t be a locker issue, despite character concerns and reports of gang ties.
However, Mornhinweg’s support wasn’t enough to convince GM John Idzik to reach out to Jackson’s representatives as of Saturday.

As of now, Jackson will visit with the Redskins on Monday and could have more visits scheduled there after. Washington is expected to make a “serious bid” to lock him up. The Bills and Raiders are also among teams believed to have serious interest in him.

Ian Rapoport reported Saturday night that the Kansas City Chiefs are out of the running for free agent WR DeSean Jackson. Rapoport updates the factors that lead to the Chiefs giving up on their pursuit of Jackson.

According to Rapoport, the Chiefs and HC Andy Reid were “intrigued” by Jackson. However, they have limited cap space to work with and the level of interest in Jackson essentially priced them out of the market.

Rapoport adds that the Chiefs would have “loved” to sign Jackson, but it ultimately wasn’t meant to be.

Rich Tandler of CSN Washington, citing multiple reports, mentions that the Redskins intend to make a “serious bid” to lock up free agent WR DeSean Jackson during his visit on Monday.

Tandler adds that Jackson is excited about possibly signing with the Redskins.

A source close to Jackson tells Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com that: “I don’t think they are bringing him in to kick the tires.”

There have been no reported visits lined up outside of Washington, although several teams are believed to interest including the Raiders and Bills.
