Report: DeSean Jackson Telling Teammates He’s Staying With The Eagles

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Eagles WR DeSean Jackson called a few teammates on Tuesday morning and told them he will be back with the Eagles this season.

Jackson announced via his Twitter account that he spoke with HC Chip Kelly on Monday.

According to McLance’s sources, Kelly and Jackson before this call.

This news comes as a bit of surprise given that several reports have surfaced that the Eagles have been fielding calls regarding Jackson, and reportedly made the decision to move on months ago.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman wouldn’t address the situation during Monday’s NFL owners meeting.

“He’s still under contract for us,” Roseman said of Jackson. “And until there’s anything to report on our players, that’s where we are now.

Recent reports mentioned that NFL teams do have interest in Jackson, but they aren’t willing to trade for him at this time. If he were to be released, it appears as though Jackson would have a lot of interest, but it appears as though the Eagles may have changed their minds regarding Jackson.

Of course, this could be an attempt for the Eagles to gain some leverage in trade talks. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this topic in the coming days.

The Patriots, 49ers, Jets, Raiders, Chiefs, and Panthers have come up as potential options for Jackson.

Jackson, 27, is entering the third year of his five-year, $47 million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed. He has a sizable 2014 base salary of $10.5 million to go along with a cap figure of $12.75 million.

In 2013, Jackson totaled 82 receptions for 1,332 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
