Report: Dolphins C Mike Pouncey Expected To Miss First Half Of The Season

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Dolphins C Mike Pouncey is more likely to miss four months of the season following his hip surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Pouncey was initially expected to miss three months, but a “source familiar with the center’s surgery” has informed Salguero that he will likely be out for the first eight weeks of the season.

“Eight weeks is probably what we’re looking at,” Salguero’s source said on Wednesday.

The Dolphins will have a completely new starting offensive line entering the 2014 season and will be without their best offensive lineman for half the year.

Miami picked up C Pouncey’s fifth-year option back in April and have said that they would like to sign him to a long-term contract.

Pouncey is slated to make $7.438 million for the 2015 season in the event that a long-term agreement isn’t in place before then.

Pouncey, 24, was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 13 center in the league and a particularly solid pass protector.
