Dolphins Officially Re-Sign CB Brent Grimes

Update:

Contract Details:

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins signed Grimes to a four-year, $32 million contract that includes $16 million guaranteed.
  • Grimes tells Josina Anderson that he signed a four-year deal.

It’s a 4-year deal. I wanted to be back but u never know in this business and when it all worked out I was happy.

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey:

I am thrilled that we have been able to reach an agreement with Brent (Grimes) to keep him as a member of the Dolphins.”

Ian Rapoport reports that the Miami Dolphins are “closing in on” an agreement with free agency CB Brent Grimes.

  • Rapoport adds that a deal could be in place “very quickly.”
  • Armando Salguero confirms the report and adds that Grimes will be returning to Miami next year.
  • Mike Garafolo adds that the deal should be announced shortly.

Reports have indicated that the Dolphins were confident they would be able to re-sign Grimes before free agency, even after it became clear that the franchise tag was not an option.

The Dolphins have plenty of cap space to with as they are projected to have over $39 million at their disposal this offseason, and a multi-year contract would at least offer them a more reasonable cap figure in 2014.

The franchise tag would cost them $11.834 million fully guaranteed for next season.

Grimes, 30, put together a great season that earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl. He tallied 60 tackles, four interceptions including one for a touchdown, and 16 pass defenses. He was also the No. 2 cornerback in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

We have him listed as the No. 9 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
