Report: Dolphins Expected To Sign HC Joe Philbin To An Extension

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross will offer HC Joe Philbin a contract extension at some point in the near future.

Philbin will be entering the final year of his contract, so an extension would prevent him from being a lame duck coach next season.

Salguero mentions this would also prevent Philbin from shopping around next year if Miami is able to put together an impressive season.

However, even with a new extension, Philbin could be coaching for his job in 2015. While the Dolphins would be on the hook for any future salaries, they could still fire Philbin once the season has concluded if the team regresses.

Since being hired in 2012, Phlibin has won 47.9 percent of his games (23-25) and has yet to post a winning record or led the team to the playoffs.

We’ll have more updates regarding a potential contract extension for Philbin as the news is available.
