Dolphins Hire Dennis Hickey As Their New GM

Armando Salguero first reported that the Miami Dolphins have hired former Buccaneers executive Dennis Hickey as their new general manager.

Hickey was one of four finalists for the job including: Patriots director of pro personnel Nick Caserio, Dolphins assistant GM Brian Gaine and Titans executive Lake Dawson.

Miami reportedly offered the job to Caserio Saturday night, but he elected to remain in New England and turned them down.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Titans VP Lake Dawson also turned down offer today to become Dolphins GM.

This process has been horribly embarrassing to say the least.

Armando Salguero mentions that the Dolphins have been turned down four times just for interviews from GM candidates throughout this process. Another candidates declined a second interview and now Caserio and Dawson both turned them down.

Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that a source believes Caserio will “will bring great scouting report of Dolphins 2014 personnel plans to Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

As for Hickey, he spent the last 18 years with the Buccaneers organization as a college scout and eventually becoming the director of college scouting. He was most recently the director of player personnel.

Previous reports indicated that the one of the main issues with the Dolphins GM position was the fact that owner Stephen Ross was set on limiting the power of the position, which is most likely the reason for multiple candidates either turning down a chance to interview or declining to accept the position one it was offered.

The Dolphins land an executive who wasn’t even considered for the Buccaneers GM position once they decided to clean house a few weeks ago.
