Report: Dolphins Wanted Jonathan Martin Back, But He Wants To Move On

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Miami Dolphins expressed interest in keeping LT Jonathan Martin during their Combine meeting this past weekend.

However, Martin’s agents told the Dolphins that he is “not comfortable returning” to Miami next season.

La Canfora adds that new Dolphins GM Dennis Hickeyexpressed the desire” to keep Martin, but his agents informed him that Martin “has no intentions of playing there” any longer.

More interesting than that is the fact that Dolphins HC Joe Philbin was reportedly “staring daggers” at them from across the room. La Canfora’s sources informed him that Philbin believes Martin’s agents were responsible for the locker room controversy developing into the story that it ultimately became over the past few months.

The Dolphins are in a tough position now that Martin reportedly has no intention of returning next season. Interested teams must know that the Dolphins hands are essentially tied in this matter, which is likely to have a big impact on the type of compensation Miami will be offered in return for Martin.

At this point, it would be surprising to see the Dolphins do any better than a late-round pick for Martin.

We’ll have more as the news is available.
