Update: Eagles OT Lane Johnson Has Yet To Be Suspended

Update:

Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com updates the situation surrounding Eagles’ OT Lane Johnson and the four-game suspension he’s reportedly facing.

  • McManus reached out to an NFL spokesperson regarding the situation and was informed that they have “no information on him” at this point in time.
  • McManus’ source added that there has been no suspension handed down from the league as of now.
  • Albert Breer mentions that Johnson is expected to serve a four-game suspension, despite the fact that the NFL hasn’t issued a final work on the topic.

We’ll have to see if the league is receives word of Johnson’s suspension in the coming days before we’ll know for certain if he’ll be available to start the season.

Should Johnson in fact be suspended, he would miss games against the Jaguars, Colts, Redskins and 49ers.

Paul Domowitch of Philly.com, citing league sources, reports that Eagles 2013 first-round pick OT Lane Johnson will miss the first four games of the season after testing positive for PEDs.

Reports out of Eagles’ camp this offseason had mentioned that Johnson had returned to camp “bigger and stronger.

“It went good. I think I had some rookie bumps in the first half of the year, but toward the latter part of the year I think I played really well,” Johnson said, via PhiladelphiaEagles.com back in April. “I think my body is a whole lot more rested than it was last year. I feel a lot stronger than I was last year, I weigh more than last year – it’s the most I’ve ever weighed – and I just feel that from a mental aspect I know what to expect. Nothing is going to catch me off guard.

The Eagles used the No. 4 overall pick on Johnson after he was an extremely impressive talent throughout the draft process last year.

It’s worth mentioning that Johnson allowed the sixth most sacks of any offensive tackle and the eight most quarterback hurries in his first year in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. Overall, they had Johnson rated as the No. 46 offensive tackle in the league due to his above average run-blocking ability.

Allen Barbre figures to have an opportunity to begin the season as the Eagles’ starting right tackle.
