According to Jimmy Kempski of PhillVoice.com, the Eagles are considering the possibility of moving on from veteran C Jason Kelce this offseason.
Kempski writes that Kelce hasn’t played like one of the top 10 centers in the NFL over the last two years, even though he’s making a top-10 salary for his position. Kelce is known for his athleticism but Kempski notes that he’s struggled with shotgun snaps and holding up against bigger interior defensive linemen.
Should the Eagles move on from Kelce, Kempski expects Philadelphia to turn to Isaac Seumalo, who was taken in third round of last year’s NFL draft.
Kelce, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Eagles back in 2011. He’s entering the fourth year of his seven-year, $40.11 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2017 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Kelce would free up $3.8 million in available cap space while creating $2.4 million in dead money.
In 2016, Kelce appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 27 center out of 38 qualifying players.
