Report: Eagles Expected To Release WR Jason Avant Before March 15

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to release veteran WR Jason Avant at some point next month.

  • Caplan adds that the move will likely happen before his $1 million roster bonus is due on March15.

Avant, 30, has one year remaining on his five-year, $14.75 million contract and is set to make $2.25 million for the 2014 season. He carries a cap figure of $3.9 million, however, the Eagles could free up $3.25 million in space by cutting him loose.

There has been a lot of talk that Avant was likely to be the odd man out in Philadelphia, and the fact that they’ve already re-signed Riley Cooper while trying to lock up Jeremy Maclin is a pretty good indication that they won’t be paying him that kind of money.

In 2013, he totaled 28 receptions for 447 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of 16 games.

  1. It would be a wise decision to let him go, we have a very good receiving corps. Free up that 3.2 mil and use it for a key defensive guy! We can work on getting a slot receiver in 2015. We have some good hands with D-Jax, Maclin, Cooper, Ertz, Celek, and Shady. Work on the D now!
