Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are signing RB Ryan Mathews to a three-year, $12M deal, pending a physical.

Mike Garafolo reports that the Eagles are expected to sign Chargers free agent RB Ryan Mathews to a contract on Wednesday.

  • Garafolo initially reported that the Eagles were hosting Mathews for a visit, but he updated his report just a few seconds later that they are expected to sign him to a deal.

The Eagles are obviously back in the market or another running back now that Gore backed out of a deal with them.

Mathews, 27,  seems like he could be a good value for a team looking to some running back depth at a reasonable cost. He played out his four-year, $18.92 million rookie contract with the Chargers, which included $4,231,000 guaranteed.

In 2014, Mathews was limited to appearing in just six games due to injury. He ran for 330 yards on 74 carries (4.5 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 69 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.

We have him listed as the No. 44 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
