Les Bowen is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as their next head coach.
Early on in the process, Pederson came up as some one to keep an eye on for the Eagles’ job, but the buzz of him being hired died down while the Philly began focusing on other candidates for the job.
Recent reports said that the Eagles wanted to hire Giants OC Ben McAdoo, but this prompted the Giants to promote him and prevent him from going to a division rival.
This morning, there was talk that Tom Coughlin could be hired. However, he later withdrew his name and it appears as though he won’t return to coaching this year.
The Eagles interviewed interim HC Pat Shurmur, Bears OC Adam Gase, RBs coach Duce Staley, Giants OC Ben McAdoo, Tom Coughlin and Pederson.
The also had requested an interview with Buccaneers OC Dirk Koetter.
Pederson, 47, began his coaching career with the Eagles back in 2009. He was later promoted to QBs coach before departing for the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator once they hired Andy Reid.
This season, the Chiefs’ offense ranked No. 27 in total yards, No. 30 in passing yards, No. 6 in rushing yards, and No. 9 in total points scored.
