Report: Eagles Moving On From Michael Vick As Backup QB

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, citing “league and team sources,” reports that free agent QB Michael Vickwill not be back with the Eagles in any capacity.”

  • La Canfora adds that Philadelphia is “moving in a different direction” regarding their backup quarterback position.
  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that a “source with knowledge of the situation” has informed him that nothing has changed between the Eagles and Vick in the past few weeks.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that the two sides have talked to one another about a return and will continue to do so in the coming weeks.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that there are no closed doors between the Eagles and Vick, but he is expected to explore other opportunities.

This probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise, however, there was talk that, depending on how things go for Vick during free agency, a return to the Eagles could be an option.

Apparently, this isn’t the case.

Vick, 33, is reportedly looking for an opportunity to compete for a starting job next year, but it could prove to be difficult to come by given his age and the fact that he’s had a hard time staying healthy in recent years.

Teams in need of a quarterback will likely consider drafting a prospect to develop, so it will be interesting to see how emerges as a serious suitor for Vick.

Other speculative options for Vick include the Jets, Bills Raiders, Buccaneers, Texans, Vikings.

We have Vick listed as the No. 32 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
