Report: Eagles Open To Trading QB Matt Barkley

Jimmy Kempski, citing multiple sources, is reporting that the Eagles are open to trading backup QB Matt Barkley and “not just in that “open to trading anyone for right offer” way.”

The Eagles used a fourth-round pick on Barkley last year after he wound up going much later than some draft experts expected him to. Since entering the NFL, Barkley hasn’t done much to convince skeptics that they were wrong.

Barkley, 23, still has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.739 million contract. He’ll make a base salary of $500,000 for the upcoming season to go along with $592,500 in 2015 and another $685,000 in 2016.

Last year, Barkley appeared in three games and completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 300 yards and four interceptions.

It’s doubtful the Eagles would receive much more than a late-round draft pick in return for Barkley.
