Update:

Pro Football Talk is reporting that a league source has informed them that the market for free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha could consist of the 49ers, Broncos, Cardinals and Texans.

This is the first we’ve heard regarding potential landing spots for Asomugha. The cornerback market has been very slow thus far, but that will obviously change in the next few days.

It will be interesting to see how much he’ll command on the open market given how poorly he played for the Eagles.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles will release CB Nnamdi Asomugha today.

The Eagles have already confirmed the move via their twitter account.

[Nnamdi Asomugha] has been a true pro on and off the field for this organization and our community,” said GM Howie Roseman in a statement released. “We wish [Asomugha] all the best as he continues his NFL career.

Asomugha, 31, signed a five-year deal with the Eagles back in July of 2011, but never came close to the expectations that come with that kind of a contract. He was set to make a $15 million base salary this season, so it’s hardly surprising to see the Eagles pass on paying him that kind of money.

Philadelphia will still have to pay him the $4 million remaining in guarantees, but they still free up $11 million and will not be on the hook for his remaining salaries of $12 million and $10.8 million.
