Geoff Mosher reports that the Eagles have released S Patrick Chung.
Chung, 26, signed a three-year contract worth $10 million that included $4.25 million guaranteed with the Eagles last year. Chung appeared in 12 games this season and totaled 59 tackles, one fumble recovery and three pass defenses.
Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 71 safety out of 84 qualifying players. According to their rating, Chung was one of the worst coverage safeties in the league.
He was set to make due $3.25 million and given that he was likely to be a backup option, cutting him and taking the $3.25 million in cap savings makes sense.
