Eagles Release WR Jason Avant

Update:

———–

Pro Football Talk reports that the Eagles are releasing veteran WR Jason Avant Tuesday.

  • Chris Wesseling of NFL.com mentions that the Jets and Chiefs could be two teams to watch given that he worked played a number of years under Chiefs HC Andy Reid and Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg.

This move was expected to be coming now that the Eagles had re-signed Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin in recent days.

Avant, 30, had one year remaining on his five-year, $14.75 million contract and was set to make $2.25 million for the 2014 season. He has a $1 million roster bonus that was due on March 15.

Avant also carried a cap figure of $3.9 million, but the Eagles will now free up $3.25 million in space by cutting him loose.

In 2013, he totaled 28 receptions for 447 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of 16 games.
