Eric Mangini A Possible Candidate For The Dolphins GM Job?

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald offers some names to keep an eye on with regards to the Dolphins general manager position should they elect to part ways with current GM Jeff Ireland.

According to Salguero, former Jets and Browns head coach Eric Mangini is the No. 1 option for the Dolphins due to his relationship with Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross. Salguero adds that Ross planned to hire Mangini in 2011, but Ireland, “balked at the idea.

Mangini currently resides as a Senior Offensive Consultant for the San Francisco 49ers.

Other potential candidates for the job according Salguero include:

  • Dolphins assistant GM Brian Gaine
  • Dolphins Executive VP of Football Administration Dawn Aponte
  • Former Chiefs GM Scott Pioli
  • Carl Peterson
  • Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum

With the Dolphins missing the playoffs after a large offseason spending spree in 2013 offseason, it only seems like a matter of time before Miami makes a change at GM.

We’ll have more as the news is available.

  1. Let’s see..Mangini draft picks..lets start with Pro Bowl guys..Revis,Furguson,Mack. Leon Washington, Joe Haden, oh and Nick Mangold..Mangini was the guy that loved Brad Smith and Danny Woodhead late in the draft and everyone laughed..worked out well. Every team whiffs on picks..thats a fact..its not an exact science..We all know where Pats fans are coming from..By the way Mangini whupped New England when he had a roster of nobody’s in Cleveland.. The last person Belichik wants back in the AFC East is Mangini..you can take that to the bank.

  2. Please , I hope It is Real , I want Ireland get out of Miami and Miami get anybody for GM, Please God , that is my only wish for 2014 , Happy New Year 2014 Dolphins

    • I understand that you want to a see a change at GM, but I think you should have higher expectations that Eric Mangini. I know there aren’t a lot of great names on this list, but I do think Scott Pioli, at the very least, has proven to be good at drafting quality talent. Just look at the Chiefs roster. Plus he signed Jamaal Charles to a steal of a contract.

      • Pleeeeeaseeeee take Mangenius as your GM Mr. Ross and you’ll catch up with Jerry Jones and Danny Synder as NFL owners with “way ” more money than common sense!
        Thanks,
