Report: Falcons Asking DE Osi Umenyiora To Take A Pay Cut

Mike Garafolo reports that the Atlanta Falcons have approached veteran DE Osi Umenyiora regarding a pay cut.

Umenyiora, 32, signed a two-year deal worth $8.5 million that included $5 million guaranteed last year. He will make $3.5 million for the 2014 season, according to Garafolo.

  • Brian McIntyre mentions that Umenyiora has a $500, 000 roster bonus due on March 25.
  • The Falcons could free up $3.5 million by releasing him, according to OverTheCap.com.

In his first year with the team, he produced 47 tackles, 7.5 sacks an interception and three forced fumbles.

The Falcons don’t have much depth at defensive side and have said that they would like to have him back next season, but it appears as though this comes with a stipulation.

We’ll have more regarding Umenyiora and the Falcons as the news is available.
