Report: Falcons “Likely” To Release RB Michael Turner

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Falcons are “likely” to release RB Michael Turner.

Rumors have been circulating for months now that Turner could be a cap casualty, so this shouldn’t be all that surprising.

Turner, 31, is entering the final year of current contract and has a base salary of $6.9 million next season. His productivity drop off considerably in recent years, so it’s hard to say that he’ll find a lot of interest on the open market given his age and the position he plays. It seems likely that he’ll be forced to sign a one-year deal that includes incentives.

Atlanta will have to find a better running back at some point during the offseason. Jacquizz Rodgers has shown that he’s capable of handling a large workload, so it could make a lot of sense for them to target someone in the draft.
