Report: Falcons To Meet With WR Roddy White Regarding An Extension

Mike Silver of the NFL Network reports that the Atlanta Falcons will meet with the representatives for WR Roddy White on Saturday regarding a possible contract extension.

  • Silver adds that he’s “not sure how this one will play out.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff mentioned that on Friday that they were expected to focus on unrestricted free agents before addressing the contracts of players like White and Julio Jones, but apparently things have changed to some degree.

“The guys who are under contract right now, they’re our focus, they’re always going to be our focus, but we’re trying to figure out where we’re going to go before we dig into restructuring, renegotiating or adding on to contracts,” Dimitroff said, via ESPN.com.

White, 32, has one year remaining on his current contract that includes a $5 million base salary for the 2014 season. According to Overthecap.com, White has a $6.325 million cap figure, so another benefit for the Falcons would be that an extension would almost certainly reduce that number.

It is worth noting that White is coming off of a down season, but the same can be said of almost everyone on the Falcons roster. Over the course of his career, White has been one of the most durable players in the NFL even the missed the first games of his career this season due to hamstring and ankle injuries.

His final 2013 stats include 55 receptions for 620 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
