Report: Falcons Working Out Former Saints LB Jonathan Vilma

 

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Atlanta is working out former Saints LB Jonathan Vilma Wednesday.

• Rapoport somewhat unsurprisingly adds that Vilma, if healthy, could fill in for the injured Sean Witherspoon.

Atlanta has been looking for veteran help at linebacker, with Pat Angerer and Tim Dobbins as two players they have reportedly considered.

Vilma, 32, hasn’t found any real interest this offseason, partly due to the fact that he has missed 25 games over the course of the past three seasons.

The sudden season-ending injury to Witherspoon could force Atlanta’s hand however.  Internally, the Falcons could turn to Joplo Bartu or Paul Worrilow, two players who exceeded expectations last season, but neither has much experience.
